Two years ago, my wife and I found ourselves asking a simple but weighty question: What does God want from us in this season? Should we press deeper into the church where we were already members, seek another fellowship, or step into something altogether different?
We brought the question to the Lord in prayer. First, we asked if this was even something He wanted us to focus on. As we leaned in, He reminded us of Paul’s house church—born of circumstance, yet fruitful in His hands. We prayed again, asking if this was His desire for us, and the confirmation we received was undeniable.
At first, we assumed this meant we were to host a house church in our own home. After all, when God led us to purchase our house, He had impressed on us that it was to “build faith in people.” We had always assumed that meant our family and whomever else He might bring. But it soon became clear He had something broader in mind.
About two weeks later, I met with an acquaintance I knew through Trail Life. In this meeting, he mentioned that he was part of a house church—and he invited me to check it out. The timing was too precise to ignore. We believed this was God’s hand, guiding us step by step.
Not long after, a leak behind our kitchen sink damaged nearly half of our home. Insurance covered the repairs, but we saw an opportunity: instead of simply restoring an old and outdated kitchen, we could redesign the living spaces into something new. What we didn’t know was that the very man who had invited me to his house church was also a contractor specializing in kitchen and bathroom remodels. He generously offered tools, tutorials, and guidance—free of charge. It was a gift straight from God’s provision.
Over the years, much of our home has been furnished through the generosity of others. Its open design has proven perfect for hosting larger gatherings. And now, this house church community meets here monthly for a shared meal, deepening our fellowship beyond Sunday studies and giving us space to learn from one another in new ways.
Looking back, the sequence of events feels far from coincidental. Each step—the questions, the invitations, even the leak—was woven together with purpose. Following God requires leaning into Him through prayer and petition. Without that posture, we would have missed the opportunity He was preparing for us. Instead, we now see His love and care written into the very walls of our home.
